This gig was held in memory of the late ELOE drummer Simon Dove who succumbed to the indiscriminate cancer at Christmas and also to bass guitarist Simon Rownes who lost his mother. ELO Encounter band members play along side legendary ELO founder member Bev Bevan and Trevor Burton guitarist from the Move. Simon, our bass player and backing vocalist, is from the Midlands, so it was extra special for him to play along side his heroes as they are fellow Brummies too. Simon said at the time, “It felt like talking to old friends from back home, fantastic musicians, down to earth and so funny. So many amazing stories”.

Jeff Lynne and co’s often complex arrangements are not the most simple to replicate but this excellent tribute band had it well nailed. Lead singer and keyboard player Jack Rownes confidently took on the Lynne vocal part – while Jasmine Ali and Ezme on violin and cello added to the authenticity of the ELO sound. The ELO Encounter put on a spectacular show at the Witham Public Hall for a great audience who revelled in the renditions of songs by Jeff Lynne and ELO.
